Discretionary Housing Payments
What are Discretionary Housing Payments and how to claim.
If you are struggling to pay your rent, you may be able to get a Discretionary Housing Payments (DHP).
A DHP is a financial support provided by local councils in the UK to help with housing costs. To be eligible, you must be receiving either Housing Benefit or the housing element of Universal Credit and demonstrate a need for additional financial support with housing costs.
Please be aware that if you are affected by the benefit cap and currently receive a DHP to bridge the rent shortfall, you must complete a new DHP application form.
